April 2005 Update

Since the February 2005 update, we have been working on the tasks described below:

Concept Plan & Proposed Access

Proposed concept plans and access control along the corridor were presented at the TaskTypical Section

Force Meeting.  The following segments were

Discussed:

·                    Veterans Parkway

·                    Colonial Boulevard

Further information regarding the concept plan and access can be found in the Task Force Meeting presentation (see link below.)

Project Cost & Funding

A recommended implementation plan is being outlined for the project corridor including estimated cost and project funding.  Project priorities may vary depending on the source and availability of funding.  Possible project funding could be through local capital improvement programs, which include road impact fees and gas taxes.

In Lee County, surplus toll revenue from the Midpoint Memorial Bridge could be used to fund a portion of these improvements.  However, the surplus toll revenues based on current toll pricing and traffic volumes would not be sufficient to fund the improvements within the projected needed horizon.

A portion of Colonial Boulevard from Cleveland Avenue to east of I-75 is on the State Highway System.  State and federal governments are a potential source of funding if the corridor meets eligibility requirements.

Further information regarding the estimated project cost can be found in the Task Force Meeting presentation (see link below.)

The Final Task Force Meeting was held with elected officials.
