Community Involvement
hr3

A community involvement program was developed and carried out to inform the community members about the study.  The objectives of this program were to provide information about the study’s progress as well as to receive public input and consensus.  The community involvement program is described below.

Website

We have developed this project website to provide the community with news about the project and the study process as it progressed.  Visit the Project Process & Schedule page for the project progress and schedule.

We would also like to hear from you.  If you would like to share your ideas or have questions, then you may contact us by writing us, calling us on the telephone, or by sending an email.  Visit the Talk to Us page.

Travel Survey

For a limited time in February 2004, a survey about daily travel characteristics was distributed to drivers in Lee County along Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers, and along Veterans Parkway in Cape Coral.  Drivers completed the survey at home and mailed it back to us.  The postage was paid by Lee County Department of Transportation.  Also, we asked your opinion about alternatives to ease traffic congestion in the future.

If you had questions while completing the survey, assistance was available by telephone.  The telephone number was printed on the survey.  We thank you for your participation!

Public Workshops -  Held in MAY

Three separate public information workshops will be held in the cities of Fort Myers, Punta Gorda and Cape Coral to present findings from the study.  The public was invited to attend any of these workshops.  Workshop details are shown below.

Each workshop presented a summary about the corridor within that workshop's area. Handouts were available with information about the other sections of the corridor. Information presented at the workshops included an overview of the entire project, displays showing future roadway concepts, right-of-way needs and estimated project cost.

Business Owner and Tenant Meetings

In December 2004, meetings were held with business owners and tenants with property along Colonial Boulevard to provide information about the corridor study.  Corridor concepts and proposed right-of-way were presented.

The information available at the meetings for the sections of the Colonial Boulevard corridor from McGregor Boulevard  to Metro Parkway can be found here.

The information available at the meeting for the section of the Colonial Boulevard corridor from Metro Parkway to I-75 can be found here.

Task Force

The study corridor travels through the municipalities of Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Punta Gorda in Lee and Charlotte Counties.  A task force consisting of representatives from each municipality was created to provide consensus regarding the need, schedule, and improvement of this transportation corridor.  The project team will meet periodically with the task force as the project progresses.  The time and location of these task force meetings will be advertised in your local newspapers, and are open for the community to attend.
